“I indulge in the mundane to cope with a creative block”, says Ar. Sandeep Khosla

“The first thing I do when I get a creative block is to step away from my design board and do something therapeutic; but unrelated to design”, says Ar. Sandeep Khosla

For the past few months, I have been working from home and my workspace looks out into a calming courtyard garden with a water body and looming Frangipani tree at its centre. My courtyard garden is my haven and spending time in it or even staring at it from my home office is always soothing.

Rather than fight a creative block and put pressure on myself to complete a task within a timeframe, I first allow myself an extension on the time I need to complete the design. I may then go for a walk, play with my dog in the garden, listen to music, or just pause to have a tea break with the family.

This is the last feature in the series ‘My Go-to Therapist’ curated especially to boost the morale of a lot of design professionals, who interacted with Team IAnD conveying their difficulty in combating stressful creative blocks during these unprecedented times.

At other times mundane tasks feel therapeutic like cleaning my workspace or organizing my desktop. Taking my mind completely away from design for a day always helps and I usually feel re-energized and ready to go the next day!
